Supplier spotlight: Careium
Careium and Moat: keeping domestic abuse survivors safe at home
At PfH, we work with suppliers who go beyond the contract to support the communities our members serve. Careium, an awarded supplier on our Technologies for Independent Living: Telecare and Telehealth framework, is doing exactly that.
A practical response to a real challenge
Moat, a housing association managing over 23,000 homes across the South East of England, identified a gap in their support for residents experiencing domestic abuse. Some individuals weren’t ready to involve the police directly, leaving them without an immediate route to protection.
Careium stepped in and provided free Eliza personal alarms to those residents. The Eliza connects the wearer directly to Careium’s 24/7 Alarm Receiving Centre, where the team can listen in and call emergency services if the person is in danger. It’s a small, discreet device that gives residents a direct line to help when they need it most.
This wasn’t about ticking a social value box. Careium listened to what Moat’s team needed and responded with something practical that aligned with Moat’s wider work around independence, reducing isolation, and resident safety.
What Moat’s team says
Katee Swallow, Domestic Abuse Specialist at Moat, described the alarms as a vital tool for vulnerable residents. She said “they give people an alternative when they’re hesitant about going to the police, and that knowing they have a direct link to Careium helps them feel safer in their own home.”
Why it matters
Lauren Purser, Commercial Director at Careium, said the partnership with Moat came down to listening. “Our job is to listen to the challenges our partners face and find practical ways to help. Supporting Moat with these alarms wasn’t a box-ticking exercise; it was about giving them a tangible tool to change someone’s life. When we can help create a sense of safety for just one person, that’s what true value is all about.” Her team wanted to understand the challenges Moat faced and find a way to help that would actually change someone’s day-to-day experience. For Careium, that’s what delivering value looks like.
For our members, this is an excellent example of what the right supplier relationship can deliver. Not just a service, but a partner who actively looks for ways to support residents and strengthen the work housing associations do every day.
