Centra worked with Buckinghamshire County Council, NRS and the South Central Ambulance Service to develop an efficient responder service, where their existing provision through British Red Cross was struggling to meet demand 24/7/365. Centra receive calls from lifeline and fall detector units from Buckinghamshire residents receiving telecare, capturing all call details. Centra then contact the South Central Ambulance Service to jointly triage the call and identify appropriate action to be taken, i.e. whether a first responder is required, or an ambulance. Previously, British Red Cross’ lack of scalability meant the service was not readily available at all times of the day and would suffer if there were spikes of usage. At the end of a three month pilot, all stakeholders agreed this new process was substantially more efficient and reliable for the service users, and was implemented across Buckinghamshire.
