Sustainable retro-fitting programme in development

21st April, 2010

A green transformation of Britain's homes will take place over the next decade under the Warm Homes, Greener Homes Strategy set out by the government - with the aim of making them more comfortable, warmer and cheaper to run.

With around one quarter of UK emissions coming from energy used in homes the Warm Homes, Greener Homes Strategy is aimed at cutting emissions from the UK's homes by 29% by 2020.

About 700,000 properties per year (across all sectors) will need to be retrofitted to make them more energy efficient. Unless the government addresses the present skills deficit in low carbon energy, this target represents a significant challenge for the sector to achieve.

In response to the strategy, PfH is currently working with Fusion21 on a sustainable retro-fit model incorporating the supply and fit of building materials, skills, jobs and resident training.

PfH will keep Members informed as this partnership progresses to deliver a Framework tailored to the sector's needs.
