Apollo is constantly striving to raise health, safety and environmental standards for their customers

Apollo Property Services Group, a supplier on the Solar PV, Solar Thermal and Voltage Optimisers Framework, has recently announced how it maintains a keen focus on continuous improvement in its approach to health, safety and the environment, across the business. 

Following a number of management changes among and a £2m investment per annum made in this area, the company has developed a self-sufficient in-house Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) team that has recently been restructured to better support the needs of the fast-expanding Apollo, and includes SHEQ specialists based throughout the UK giving full national coverage.

The investment has been afforded in part by Apollo's increasing success in managing health and safety risks as a business, which has seen the company's premiums on insurance drop incrementally for the past four years, with a 30% reduction in that time set against a 31% increase in annual turnover.

Apollo have revealed that the SHEQ team is raising the bar further, by toughening the scoring criteria on its bespoke Site Monitoring system, which was developed in-house and has been successfully running for two years.

During the time that the system has been running, the average scores achieved by Apollo sites have steadily increased. So, while the barrier for compliance is set at 80%, scores in excess of 95% are now being regularly achieved.

Therefore, as part of Apollo’s commitment to continuous improvement, the performance framework is being adjusted in order to drive even higher safety standards across their sites. From 1st November there will be a realignment of scores with the new framework, which will see figures drop by around 10% to 15%, although sites standards will not have changed.  Over time, Apollo expect sites will innovate and scores will start to rise beyond the 80% benchmark again.
